Mark K. Helgeson, OD, FAAO
Dr. Helgeson, is a 1988 graduate from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR. He was then accepted into residency training in Hospital-based Rehabilitative Optometry at the American Lake and Seattle Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers in Tacoma and Seattle, WA. He worked in the Seattle area prior to moving to North Dakota and opening Heartland Eye Care in 1990. Since that time Dr. Helgeson has been active in organized optometry in the state including serving as president of the North Dakota Optometric Association in 2000. He was honored as the North Dakota Young Optometrist of the Year in 1999. He and his wife, Dr. Dori Carlson, were honored as the Walsh County Entrepreneurs of the year in 2001. Dr. Helgeson is also a member of the American Optometric Association, American Public Health Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Some of his professional accomplishments have been to provide volunteer eye care to indigent people in Central and South America and to serve as a research consultant to the Seattle VA Medical Center Biomedical Research Foundation in studying the efficacy of a new diabetic medication in the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Helgeson is a native of Jamestown, ND.
Dori M. Carlson, OD, FAAO
Dr. Carlson is a 1989 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR. She then completed a residency in Hospital-based Rehabilitative Optometry at the American Lake and Seattle VA. In 1990 she opened Heartland Eye Care. Dr. Carlson is active in the North Dakota Optometric Association (having served as the first female President in 1998), the American Optometric Association and the American Public Health Association. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
In 2004 Dr. Carlson was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees. In June of 2010 she was elected to the position of President Elect and became the Association’s first female President in June 2011.
In 1995 Dr. Carlson was honored as the North Dakota Young Optometrist of the Year and Optometrist of the Year in 2003.
She and her husband/partner, Dr. Mark Helgeson, were recognized as the 2001 Walsh County Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Dr. Carlson is a native of Hallock, MN. She and Dr. Helgeson have two sons, Seth and Ian.
Dr. Carter is a 1998 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. She completed internships at Columbia Heights, Minnesota; Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota and Pacific University Optometric Clinics in Forest Grove and Portland, Oregon. She earned her undergraduate degree at North Dakota State University in Fargo where she presented her senior thesis on diabetic retinopathy to the department faculty. Dr. Carter is a member of the North Dakota Optometric Association and the Inkster Quick Reponse Unit. She and her husband, Andrew,and their 2 children, live in Inkster, North Dakota. Dr. Carter is a native of Pisek, North Dakota.
Jaime Hoenke, OD
Dr. Jaime Hoenke is a native of Minto, ND and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Dakota. In 2012, she graduated with honors from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. She completed internships at the Air Force Base in Minot, ND; Lebanon VA in Pennsylvania; Eye Care Associates in Fargo, ND; and Spivack Vision Center in Denver, CO. She was an active member of Amigos Eye Care at PUCO and led two mission trips to Honduras and the Philippines. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Dakota Optometric Association. Dr. Hoenke and her husband, Dave, live in Grafton with their 2 children, Brayden and Harlow.
